It’s safe to say that sharing a nude photo with a spouse isn’t the smartest idea. Whether the relationship ends on bad terms, or the personal photos end up in the wrong hands, people are always taking a chance when snapping these risky shots. For Annmarie Chiarini, a 42 year old single mother, she was devastated when her ex-spouse posted personal photos she had sent to him, publicly, on eBay and sent a link to all her personal and professional acquaintances. When she reached out for help from the police, she did not receive the reaction she had expected.
While there are dozens of sights that display “revenge photos”; pictures that are posted on pornographic sites by a spouse, only two states have made this act illegal. Considering there are thousands of sights that display these images, it is shocking that more of them haven’t been shut down and even more surprising that other states haven’t banned it all together. Although 80% of the pictures are indeed taken by the victim themselves, the fight of whether or not the person posting the pictures public ally should be scrutinized, is still up in the air.
